Not many from Clan Balmain or Mackenzie remain - die hard Jacobites who were wiling to risk everything and anything to return the rightful ruler back to the throne. But those who did managed to survive the rebellion escaped the familiarity of the highlands for a place just out of reach, refugees somewhere they could shelter what remained of their family.

Fiona Balmain-_____ - sister of Murdoch, aunt to Catriona, wife to Euan (5.5)
- headstrong, stubborn. sharp tongue, fearless. motherly.
Euan _____ - husband of Fiona (6) walks with a permanent limp, blind in one eye
- hard worker, blindly loyal to those he loves. open minded, even keeled.
(any number of their children - at least 2-3 litters between them)

Lachlan (Mckinnon) Balmain (4) adopted by the Balmains, former lover to Catriona
- clever and cunning, tenacious and adaptable. loyal, survivors guilt.

Fergus and Angus Mackenzie (5) cousins twice removed or something or other of Catriona
- the 'twins' but really they have different mothers, sons to Duncan Mackenzie (uncle to Catriona's father)
- Frick and freaking frack, night and day. Fergus is the one with a poets heart and a bard's finesse and a head set squarely on his shoulders while Angus is everything but: pig-head, reckless and a quick draw. But they're both loyal to kin and kith, and more importantly, to each other. But you'd never know it, the way they bicker.

appearances:
Wolves of clan Balmain were known primarily as red-heads with slanted eyes in any manner of green. Mackenzie clansmen were brawny brutes built for fighting with any range of color under the sun, though many boost Mackenzie blue eyes -- bright as the open sky.
