Edit Outlander and Character Limit

Thread Closed

ALRIGHT SO. I have been roleplaying for years, and in those years I have made characters with histories and backstories that, while they're rooted in realism, are also based in various cultures from different parts of the world. These characters personalities have been forged and tempered by their history and background, by the places they've lived or been born and the culture they experienced.

And therefore, I could never bring them to Sonder. I struggled to bring the ones I have, and the one of the four that I have that remains inactive is because his history is based off of a kingdom, which conflicts deeply with the lore of Sonder as it would require him to have contact with NPC royalty characters, and I could not make him an outlander. And so I have yet to fully find a way to fix that. One of the things that makes me struggle with keeping up is a lack of being able to personally connect with characters who have a history that just can't exist if they've lived here their whole lives. Unless they're allowed to have been born, left, and returned.

I suggest that we make some changes to the limit on both the amount of characters one can have, and the limit on having outlanders.
Now firstly, I understand that in order for the over-arching site plot to have people behind it, to have a history, there MUST be native characters to understand and push the plot along and to icly teach others. However, I believe that instead of discouraging people to bring in characters, they should instead be encouraging incentives to make natives.

Perhaps natives start with a certain amount of renown. Perhaps natives have an additional stat or roll. Perhaps natives are the only ones able to access a certain place, similar to how high, mid and lowlanders have their own sacred sites. It should be up and open for discussion.
One of the reasons I became inactive and dropped off the face of the earth was because I was struggling not only to find my place in the setting of this world, but how to make beloved and comfortable characters fit into it.

That said, I also suggest we either remove entirely or edit the character limit. Most people are aware of and able to control the amount of characters they have, and I have seen someone remain active with over 15 characters, posting on all of them every day and forming established connections and bonds without breaking a sweat. I suggest either upping the character limit to 10 instead of 7, with the ability to purchase up to 5 more for a total of 15, and enforcing an 'at least one ACTIVE character must be a native' rather than a limit of 3 being outlanders. As it stands, all three of my current active characters are outlanders. So I would HAVE to make a native in order to meet this standard--AND I would have to keep it active. Not only would this promote more site activity I feel, but it would also vastly improve the diversity of the characters available, and be more welcoming to newcomers who aren't yet comfortable with the inner-workings of Rionnach.
