RUBY RIVER
GLOWING IN
THE SUN
Pebbles clattered over a cliff's edge, the final strike of their descent never reaching the elevation. A bulky pair of paws shifted themselves backwards and out of danger of a fatal plunge. The early morning light caught the shimmering surface of a thin layer of snow upon branches and illuminated the golden highlights of his honey auburn coat. Sundstol leaned himself back into a seated position, tilting his head to catch those warm rays of sunshine that made the cold of winter settling more bearable.
When he opened his eyes again, he focused on the scenery ahead of him. He took a large frigid breath in and exhaled, a cloud of steam from his nostrils as though he were a mythical dragon of some sort. A small smile touched his lips at the memory of the wild imagination he used to have as a young boy and the way his mother encouraged his dreams and fantastical way of thinking. Oh, how he missed her...
Movement of geese taking flight across the sky far below him drew his attention to the overlook of Rionnach...or, well...this was Saora now. How different might his future be in such unprecedented times? Reflecting on his past and what joy he found back then...it all seemed so far away now after so much loss in his life.
Sundstol knew he had to face it all head-on. That was his primary reason for taking this journey through the mountains. What he needed most was to ponder upon everything up to this point...acknowledge it as he could...and then he would clear his head, refocus. He was no good to anyone in his current melancholy state, that much he
did know for certain.
Wash me over,
Show me where you run...
Roll me deeper in your tide,
Take my spirit, take my mind,
Take me over to that other side...
