erebus had a dented ego from the fight that took place days ago. but his self assurance was too instilled to break. perhaps it was the high ground, or even his lack of awareness when she came at him first with teeth. whatever he could say to justify his failure and not succumb to the fears of not being good enough. his soldier days were behind him. instead, he directed where they went, and who they fought. he had about two-hundred under his sole command. what did it mean when the major couldn't win a battle between a man-bitch?
he growled at his ponders. wanting to shake them from himself as he treaded slowly to inverness. he took previous rest before his journey here yet still, he could not escape the sharp pains & fatigues of his injured thigh & nape. dried blood matted into his dark fur by now as he winced with a slight limp into the town of lively folk. where most traders came then went & where conmen practiced. the irony of it was insane. what the dyke said wasn't entirely false: the highlanders weren't fond of the mainlanders. yet here, the major went on his years contemplating which zone to raid next and how many highlanders it would save. the war was always there.. whether others knew it or not. it never slept.
he kept a vigilant stare outwards; binary eyes hard and unwelcoming as he passed many strangers who chattered. some dressed with rags and satchels. his ears swiveling at the sounds of clinking coins as he continued his narrowed path. he sought a medic- & after all these years, he knew one when he saw one. by their scent and by their look. yet she was not one who could be hidden, either way. for she wore a coat of merle print. shades of grey, white & fawn. a splendid array of colours he hadn't witnessed before. and like the wolf he was, he drew near to the woman with an evidently injurious walk. leaving but a foot or two between them had she not moved from her stand; the stench of mainlands faint on her. "i presume you are a nurse." he sighed, relief meeting him. "i seek your services. i am a major for the imperial army." erebus didn't go too far to explain how he got injured. only stating the obvious for her as his eyes kissed her own mismatched gaze from some height away, standing idle until she received him.
