My one good eye followed two of my soldiers as they sparred lightly back and forth. A jaws snapped at them when I was displeased with their performances, a growl emitting as I stood and began to circle them. I watched their footwork, the way they moved, their speed and agility.
"Watch the right, watch her speed!" One of my soldiers got the better of her counterpart, but they weren’t finished yet. I heaved a sigh, moving to the outside and coming to stand by another male. He was pale with splashes of iron and cream, his eyes a different hue each. I nodded in regards to a silent introduction, but then returned my attention to my soldiers. "Tighten up, Turrigan." I practically groaned the male’s name, to which he huffed in return and lunged again for his opponent. "I swear, I’ll have to teach that boy myself," Baritones mumbled, half to myself and half to the man beside me. |
The male next to me spoke, offering advice. I nodded along, agreeing with all of it, when he let his rank slip. Lieutenant Major Fallon was here to observe just how horrible a few of my troops were, and the embarrassment burned just beneath the surface. I didn’t let it show, however. Keeping my composure, I nodded to allow him full freedom. While innately I wasn’t one to bow, my ambition often reminded me to keep my meager rank in mind. Perhaps one day I could find it in me to ask him how he came to be so high on the ladder.
"Lieutenant White Timber, an honor to meet you," I wanted to sneer. How off putting it was to be so low. But I spoke it with a pride unseen, and then gestured toward the current sparring pair. "Any training advice is welcomed. The two need it. Brand new to my troop, you see. I don’t think the lad has had a fight a day in his life," The woman, however, could be a force if properly guided. |
