O

nce more, the skunk had gone away in its mysterious fashion, beckoning Willow to follow it (or, at least, that was how Willow continued to interpret their interaction together). Now, Willow was determined to do what was right, to assist the injured wild animal, and maybe have a new companion to travel with. The skunk certainly would have sprayed her by now, if it was angry. Instead, it appeared interested, but hesitant. And who could blame it? Willow was much bigger than the skunk.

This was it. All Willow needed to do was gain the skunk’s confidence once and for all. She picked up the satchel with her teeth and tossed it ahead so that it fell between wolf and skunk. Again, the skunk appeared interested, and Willow remained cautiously optimistic. ”That’s it, see? I won’t hold you hostage or anything like that! We can make sure you’re all better.”
