The first few weeks of parenthood had been just as life changing as Argent had expected, but nothing could have prepared him for how fiercely he loved them. Three tiny balls of wriggling fluff became the centre of his world. He hadn’t been able to take his eyes off them, marvelling at how he and Merrin had somehow created something so perfect. Each little sigh and squeak they made was the most amazing thing he’d ever witnessed in his life. Each day he mentally compared their growth and excitedly reported to Merrin about his observations. Doesn’t Atlas look bigger today? Lenora’s looking a little fluffier than she did yesterday. I think Riften’s markings are darker than they were before.

Then just as he thought they couldn’t get anymore amazing. Something even more amazing happened. Lenora opened her eyes. It started out as a hesitant little squint, her first sneak peek at the world she had joined not so long ago. A pair of beautiful lilac eyes peered up at him in wonder and he gazed back down, utterly bewitched by her adorable face. Merrin? Look. Merrin! he loudly whispered, trying not to disturb his sleeping sons, but also completely unable to hide his excitement. He was laid on his stomach on the outer edge sheepskin pelt that had become their family nest, allowing the new mother and pups to claim most of it.

...Uh..Hi, he greeted his daughter awkwardly, uncertain of what else to say to the precious pup that was looking up at him so intently. He was still learning how to act around them, trying to soften his voice when he spoke to them or to Merrin so that they wouldn’t be frightened and lighten his steps so that he didn’t stomp around them too.

Merrin absolutely basked in this new experience of being a mother. It was all so...unexpected, the way it felt this time, the afterglow illuminating the sweet little family days afterward. With every morning and every night, she prayed that she would hold onto this state of being, even if it had to live on in her memory. Though the most gratifying part of this new venture was Luciel's unwavering devotion to both herself and what they never could have imagined they would have and hold. Yet, here they were, Lenora, Riften, and Atlas...they were so unbelievably real and the absolute embodiment of the pure love that her and Luciel they shared. The thought of this nearly brought Merrin to tears every time she set her lavender sights upon their precious forms.

Not only was he steadfast in the way he took to his new role of fatherhood, he was also a source of unbridled joy shared between them both. Every little thing the pups were doing was reported to her immediately, whether she was also watching or not, earning the man amused chuckles and nuzzles of affection whenever he felt the need to alert her. Merrin could see the spark of hope, of new life that their children inspired within her beloved Captain and it only made her love all of them more fiercely. You have no idea how you're healing us, my little wonders... She would silently thank them as she groomed them and cuddled them closer.

Merrin was in and out of a light nap when her love whispered to her urgently, rousing her in a bit of a fright. Her head lifted quickly and her wide eyes flickered around to check on all of the pups, fortunately finding all was well. In fact, Lenora had her tiny head lifted upward at Luciel and it took a moment for her to realize that there were tiny lilac orbs peering up, nearly cross-eyed as she was taking in the sight of her father for the first time. "Oh...!" She breathed as quietly as she could as she fondly observed such a tender moment between the two of them.

She glanced up at the great arctic beast that was Luciel, smiling warmly at him as she wondered what Lenora might think at the sight of her sire. Merrin let them be for a time before she lowered her head, resting it on the ground before she cooed softly in a sing-song tone at her daughter, "Lenooora~" That certainly turned the tiny head in her direction and Merrin's heart skipped a beat to find herself staring into miniature mirrors of her own eyes. "Hello, sweet girl...oh, look at how pretty you are!" There was the slightest motion of a tiny tail wiggling back and forth in response to her mother's voice, though Lenora's attention as quickly stolen again by the presence of her father. "My, my, she is quite smitten with you, isn't she, love?" Merrin teased, relaxing where she lay, glancing at the other two pups still napping. She would wait patiently for their turn to finally see the world, meanwhile she'd silently admire this instant connection Lenora and Luciel seemed to have as they fawned at one another, falling in love all over again with them both.
