Aryth beamed as his students paired off. The look on his face was like a father watching his children leave the nest for the first time; he was absurdly proud at the barest minimum participation from the class. He was eager for the wolves to engage in the experiment he had planned—surely their excitement would build, right? But even as he surveyed the class with his shining, emerald eyes, Arythmetik began to notice their doubt. It was a subtle tension, yet one all professors knew well. He could see the question behind their eyes and in the tones of their comments: what’s the point? The scholar swallowed, his throat feeling suddenly dry. He had to remember that not everyone loved learning merely for the sake of it. Perhaps he could still salvage their interest in physics. He’d have to think of something.
But for now, the experiment!
“Students, by me you’ll see two piles. One of acorns, one of rocks. I’d like you to take from one pile and your partner from the other. Come on up.” Aryth stepped aside, donning the tranquil, professional smile from earlier. “Feel the item’s weight in your mouth. Trade if you like. But you all know the stones are heavier than the acorns. They’re larger, denser…they have more mass.” The teacher paused again, allowing them to test the weight of the objects if they wished. “Now return to your places and stand across from your partners. I’m going to count down from five. Directly after I say ‘one,’ I want both of you to drop your objects at the same time. Which one do you think will hit the ground first? The heavy rock, or the light acorn?” The male tilted his head, nodding at any responses, eying his students attentively if they offered any guesses. “Well, let’s find out, shall we?”
“Five…four…three…two…one!” Once the wolves dropped the objects from their jaws, both the acorns and rocks would hit the ground at the same time. “Try it again—really see which one touches the grass first!” Aryth would have them repeat a few times to be sure they were releasing at the same moment. “If it’s hard to tell, stand on your hind legs and drop them! Yes… You see? Even though the rock is heavier, both objects fall at the same speed! They hit the ground at the same time. This is part of Newton’s Second Law as well.”
Aryth wagged his tail as he walked around, observing. He hoped they enjoyed the demonstrations. But he knew he had to offer something more…practical. He glanced at Grigori…then cleared his throat. “Ahem. Now that you know the basics of physics, class, I’d like to explain the premise of the next course. You may know already, but Grigori here serves as security of the College grounds. For the next lesson, he’s going to show us how we can apply Newton’s Laws to improving self-defense.” (Aryth had not run this by Grigori yet. If he could sweat, he’d be sweating bullets.) “That’s all for today! Thank you, everyone! I’ll stick around for questions.”
’And to hopefully avoid Grigori’s retaliation for a few more minutes!’
ooc. This is the last post I'll make here unless someone directly asks Aryth a question! No posting order. <3 I hope Grigori doesn't kill his boyfriend XD!
