He was gaining on her quickly. She could hear the beating of massive paws against the silt with the splashing growing close enough to where she could feel the water droplets. He tagged her lightly just as she were going to peer over her shoulder at h and she coasted to a stop, panting heavily.

"Ahhh, yes...you got me, alright." She agreed as she moved closer to him, studying how his appearance had changed slightly after they soaked each other. "You look like you're having fun." Merrin chuckled as she could only imagine what she looked like.

Instead of worrying about that she trotted closer to him until she was hardly a whisker away. There were stray droplets coming off of his muzzle and she reached up tentatively to lick the underside of his chin, her eyes flickering over towards his silver ones as the faintest blush warmed her cheeks.

fall on your sword...

If it weren't for the pain in his chest Argent might have been able to let himself believe he was well again. The fractured bones were squeezed by his chest wall with each breath he took. It caused his smile to waver slightly, but he kept it in place. Argent didn't want to needlessly worry Merrin about a bit of pain. He was used to it. It was a fair price to pay for the happiness their game had brought them. "Or did you let me?" he asked, silver eyes full of playful suspicion.

Her next words made his gruff features soften with a gentleness that was reserved only for her. "You reminded me how to," Argent admitted, automatically leaning closer when he approached. There were still little things that she did that made him blush and his heart skip a beat. Silver met purple and he felt the fluttering in his stomach grow, blood rushing to his features when her tongue lapped at his chin. He grunted in surprise, but a moment after his eyes narrowed in contentment and his tail made waves through the creek with its wagging.

He lowered his head and tentatively licked her ear before attempting to groom the top of her head lovingly. Argent had no idea if he was doing it right, but he tried his best to reciprocate her affection albeit somewhat clumsily. "You make me… happy," he murmured softly, touching his nose to hers.

A single brow rose at his suspicion, though when she looked him over, she noticed the slightest falter. She wouldn't point it out, simply take note of it and redirect him. Merrin had yet to understand what kind of pain he experienced with his old injuries.

She did know he was sensitive to the topic and seeing as it might dull his sparkle, she decided it best to set things to a slower pace and do what she could to take care of him. "I would never be so far out of your reach that you could not catch me, darling Luciel." Merrin cooed against his right ear, burying her face into the dampened fur of his cheek sighing, pleasantly.

Withdrawing after lapping the droplets from his chin, she was surprised when he returned the sentiment. She tucked her head slightly when he even began to groom the top of her head affectionately. Touching noses with him, her smile practically glowing as he attributed his own happiness to her.

"And I find myself..." Merrin became pensive for a moment trying to determine the right words. ...feeling a way that I cannot put into words...for now, I shall call it beyond happiness." She then whisked herself away from him, moving into the deeper waters of main creek to wade in them, looking over her shoulder at Luciel to invite him with gentle summoning of her lavender orbs.

He felt the soft whisper of her breath against his velvety ear and felt his skin tingle where she touched him. If she was trying to sweep him off of his paws she was doing all the right things because Argent’s heart was racing. It was hard for him to focus for a moment as flustered as he was by his charming mate. "Ah.. And I would never go far from your side,” he promised, cheeks glowing with heat as he nuzzled back. He wondered if she could feel how warm they were under his wet fur.

Their moment of shared affection did little to settle his quickened heart rate, but he was left with a pleasant afterglow that warmed him to his core especially when Merrin admitted to sharing his happiness. What they had together was wonderful and their bond was growing the more time they spent together. In time he knew they would both find a word for what they shared and was excited for their journey of discovery. ”We’ll find out together,” he replied, grey eyes positively glowing with adoration for Merrin. The softness of his expression made him look much younger than the seriousness that aged him.

He blinked in surprise when she flitted away and then he remembered why they were actually there. "We’re getting closer to the waterfall,” he observed, deliberately paddling into the deeper parts of the creek. Something wet and slithery touched his paw and he jumped in alarm and scowled down at the creek where a silver scaled fish circled around his feet.

Could she hear his heart beating? Was it her own? Or could it be both of their hearts softly thrumming in harmony together? The subtle chill of wet fur plastered against her was hardly bothersome with the delightful warmth that spread within her body and throughout her limbs. She peered up at him through a half-lidded gaze and by the look in his eyes, she could tell that he felt it too. Simply knowing that only served to kindle the delicate flame held between them as it burned ever brighter.

Merrin had been so completely captivated by a particularly dapper gentleman, she'd hardly noticed a steady roaring in the background. She paused where she could stand in the shallows, the water lapping up at her midsection as her ears swiveled forward and she listened. She turned her sights back towards Luciel when he spoke, her eyes revealing a thrilled shimmer in their lilac hues. "A waterfall?" She asked, merely for clarification as she began to drift more eagerly forward.

There was a sudden splashing behind her and she looked back to see her mate glaring down at the water. Unsure of what he'd seen, she tilted her head curiously and floated back towards him, glancing down at the surface of the creek and back up to him. She'd looked downward around her own feet to finally discover the school of fish moving about and the lightest melody of her laugh filled the air. "Have you made some new friends, Luciel?"

Argent noticed the sudden increase of her pace when the presence of a waterfall was revealed. He grinned, her excitement stirring equal enthusiasm within him. It showed in the slight sway of his tail and the bounce in his step as he splashed through the creek beside her on their way to the falls. "A waterfall," he confirmed, silver eyes flashing with delight. It would be the first time he'd visited again since before his army days. Experiencing it again with Merrin would be just as thrilling as it had been for him as a boy.

His gait slowed when the fish nipped at his paws and brushed their scaley bodies against his heels. Did they think he was food? Monochrome ears pricked up when Merrin spoke, obviously amused by the fishy friends he seemed to have attracted. "Bloody fish," he grumbled, lifting a paw up out of the water and hobbling around on three legs. He placed it back down when he realised how ridiculous he must look. "I think they're hungry," he shifted his gaze to Merrin and then scowled back at the water.

"Better get to the falls before we have no toes left," he huffed, but there was a joking glint in his eye that softened the seriousness of his features.

Merrin watched the glittering of silvered scales as they danced around their paws. Her eyes flickered here and there watching them as they flitted about, fidgeting on her paws excitedly. She glanced up at Luciel to find his reaction to the fish to not be quite as enthusiastic and she took the opportunity to try to make him smile.

She drew closer to her mate, eyeing the fish with look of feigned suspicion. "I'm terribly sorry, darlings, but this one is mine." Giggling, she threw a subtle wink in Luciel's direction with a cheeky grin. Merrin turned her turned her attention to the distant roaring of the falls again, bumping her head lightly against the Captain's.

"We'd better get moving then, love." The endearing title slipped from her lips before she had a chance to think about it. Her cheeks warmed and she moved ahead of him quickly though not staying too far as she kept her eyes peeled for first sight of the waterfall.

The irritation at the fish was insignificant compared to the rush of warmth that touched his cheeks when she claimed he was hers. It was enough to summon the tickle of butterfly wings fluttering in his stomach and he ducked his head bashfully. A fond smile forced his downturned lips from their sullen curve into a gentle and loving expression when her head brushed softly against his. Silver eyes never left Merrin's face, full of warmth and affection for her. It was a complete transformation for their usual stormy broodiness or cold steel sternness. Like metal they were malleable when around someone who stirred strong emotions within him and he definitely had strong feelings for Merrin.

"We'd better get moving then, love." The affectionate moniker caused his eyes to widen slightly, but when the butterflies in his stomach exploded into fireworks he knew that he liked it. "Yes, love," he replied, testing the waters by returning the endearment. He loped after her, making sure to stay by her side. The magic of the waterfall was something they had to see together.

It was a grand sight. Water flowing down from the great hulking mountain of Earrach and forming a roaring cascade of natural beauty. Sunlight glittered off the crystal waters creating a sparkling almost diamond like glistening. Argent let out a breathy sigh, captivated by the falls. "Look Merrin," he whispered as if it was some noble beast that he might startle if he spoke too loudly. He reached out slowly with a large forepaw and let the rushing water run over the underside of his paw pad. The velocity was strong enough to make him pull his paw back in a moment of surprise and he looked back at Merrin with boyish delight on his features.

Hearing the sentiment repeated from Luciel's lips made her heart soar. As he sauntered up to her side, it was Merrin's turn to bashfully hide her face, although she did so in between the flowing fur beneath his chin.

Oh, heavens, how he turned her to putty in his paws...it was frightening, yet she felt no hesitance when succumbing to this thrill of emotions he caused with merely a look of adoration.

When she looked up again, at Luciel's beckoning whisper, her mouth fell agape, her expression transforming to one of pure awe. She did her best to form words, but there were none that she might say that would do this marvel of cascading water any justice.

Instead, her glittering gaze followed the movement of a large gray paw that split the falls for a brief moment. And in that moment, she thought she saw something hidden by the falls. She leaned close to Luciel, her muzzle up against his ear so that he could hear her over the roaring that surrounded them. "Did you see that, Luciel?"

The closer he felt himself being drawn to her the more he knew it would be harder to leave her side once they returned to their homes. His grizzled muzzle betrayed his fondness for her with the light smile that softened his rough features. Rarely did his gaze wander from hers except to pay attention to where he was walking or his brief moment of fascination with the waterfall. It quickly returned to her, wanting to see the same look of wonder reflected in her lilac eyes.

Did you see that, Luciel? Her breath tickled his ear and it twitched as her soft voice vibrated through the roaring of the waterfall. Argent cocked his head quizzically and glanced back at the cascading waters. "What is it?" he asked, leaning close so that she might hear him. Whatever she had seen had escaped him during his moment of distraction with the water.

He lifted his paw and touched the water again, cocking his head at her. ”This?" he asked, wondering if she was merely intrigued by the way the water parted through his paw. He had to admit that it was quite fascinating. He had no idea how properties of water worked. He left the smarts up to the professors at the college.
