fall on your sword...
Argent couldn’t remember the last time he had made plans with someone. Socialising was difficult at times for the ex-captain. He was not a socialite like the Colonel. A shy boy that had grown into an awkward man. The army had brought him out of his shell, forcing him to interact with those in his company and bringing him out of his comfort zone. The King’s Ball would be a challenge, but avoiding it was out of the question. He wished to show his support and provide additional security to supplement the army. He was good at looking intimidating and that he hoped would be enough to deter trouble makers.
”I look forward to it.” He was coming to realise that the Colonel was not one for false niceties. There was sincerity in his voice when he spoke and Argent believed that he meant it. It inspired hope within him that they might become friends. The thought made a smile touch his grey lips and he gave a nod in response. He was looking forward to it too. The heaviness of the salt water weighed down his thick coat, plastering shaggy locks of white against his cheeks. He huffed in amusement when the Colonel agreed. Winter was a tough season for swimmers. His new training partner assured him that his pace would not be an issue. It was relieving to hear, at least he would not feel pressured to keep going if he couldn’t. Their time came to an end and it was back to work for the Colonel. He nodded in understanding, duty called. Exit Argent |
