The boy resigned to speak in the common tongue, but for some reason this didn't settle well with Vela. “We can...I suppose." She perked up slightly, her body language opening as one might with the spark of a sudden idea. “Would you teach me? Gaelic, that is. And in return I can help you with your studies. That seems an even trade...what do you think?"

Her cheeks warmed realizing she'd made a fool of herself by not understanding the context of a figure of speech. Vela might have immediately clammed up and kept her lips sealed for the rest of the evening if it hadn't been for the smooth roll of Gwydion's laughter. The warmth creeped into her ears as they twitched lightly, enjoying the cadence of the sound. “Oh, I see..." She responded quietly, idly pulling one of the pillows towards her with one paw and then hugging it closer to her chest.

Vela made no effort to hide her disappointment to find out that her new acquaintance wouldn't be around the next day. When he mentioned home, she sat up with a start and whipped her head towards a window nearby. She knew it had been getting late, but the sky had significantly darkened into night, causing her to gasp. “I've kept you out too late, haven't I?" She looked back over at him with a mixture of concern and guilt present in her expression.

If anything she seemed a bit disgruntled now that she knew he could speak a language she could not. While it didn't matter to him, it seemed to matter to her and that was apparent when she asked him if he could teach her in exchange for help with his own studies. His brow rose and he canted his head to the side curiously for a moment or two before shrugging. "Sure, but it'll be a lot of extra work on top of your regular studies." he said. It wasn't that he didn't think she could learn the language, he just wanted to be up front about the fact that it was work. She seemed to like learning though so that probably wouldn't matter to her. He had learned when he was young, which was much easier than learning when you were already grown or so he was told.

Then he noticed how she seemed to draw in on herself as he told her it was a figure of speech. He hoped he had not hurt her feelings and he was just about to say something when she noticed how late it had gotten. She seemed far more worried than he was and he simply shook his head before rising to his paws. "It's alright, I think it's me whose keeping you up."

It seemed like an appropriate time as any to bid farewells regardless and so he did just that. "But I should be going... we can language start lessons next week, if you want." he offered with a smile. Then he was at the door, nodding to her on his way out.

Vela lifted her chin high and straightened up, before quickly chiming in, “I'm no stranger to hard work, Gwydion." She felt she needed to let him know, since they had only just met. He did not seem opposed to it though, which had her tail twitching as it threatened to wag with excitement. If he was in agreement, she'd be learning a new language and by assisting him with his study material, she too would learn something related to medicine. Truth be told, she couldn't be happier to have something else to occupy her mind.

As soon as she vocalized her concern, Gwydion took the blame for him staying out too late. He rose to his feet and Vela hopped up as well, standing there awkwardly as he moved to the doorway. Before he exited, he turned to her and offered to meet with her next week for a language lesson. Vela lit up instantly, nodding almost feverishly. “Oh, yes, I'd like that very much!" She blurted out, her smile broadening across her maw. Then just like that, he was on his way and she called after him, “Safe travels, Gwydion!"
