[ P ] light of life

Things had been quiet lately. Ruel was often locked behind the heavy doors of his mansion, his nose buried in work, while Onyxia did her best to take care of other matters around the house. In truth, she was starting to lose sight of who she was beyond being just a mother. Since moving into the mansion with Ruel, it seemed she saw little of him. She did her best not to bother him, knowing how busy he was even before they met, but she couldn't deny the loneliness that was feeling without his presence. Ultimately it ended with an emotionally explosive fallout, which concluded with them both go their separate ways. It was agreed that Ony would take the children and they would visit their father when he had time.

The children brought her love and company she would never take for granted, and raising them was no easy task. But as they grew older, they became more independent, and she knew it wouldn't be long before they wouldn’t need her—or Ruel—so much anymore.

Had Ruel missed out on a lot of time with them because of his work?

A long sigh escaped her, her dark lips curling into a subtle frown. She carefully masked the sadness when her children bounded through the door of their new home. They were always so full of life and joy that it was hard for her to stay sad when they were around. Often, though, it was at night when the loneliness hit—when Ruel wasn’t there to warm the empty space beside her in bed anymore.

“So, what have you troublemakers been up to?” she asked, her tone playful as she took note of how much they seemed to enjoy their time outside more than indoors. She was happy about that, and while there were times she could follow them out to watch, there were other days when she was far too busy tending to the house and keeping up with the demands of their growing tummies.
