When it was all said and done she looked down at the two still bodies beside her. The largest of the three was nestled in the crook of her belly, eating greedily as if the worst thing imaginable hadn't just happened. As if her brother and sister weren't... gone.

Nora's cheeks were wet with tears as she looked around the empty cell that now house her and her three... one... child. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't think... she just sat there gazing into the endless darkness. The noises from the other cells played on repeat in her mind but eventually the spell broke and she looked down at the small brown bodies. She nosed the larger of the pair, a little sandstone boy who had come into this world not breathing and the other an even smaller girl that could almost be his twin if not for the streak of black running through her fur.

Suddenly, she stirred.

Nora blinked, more tears welling up in her eyes as she began to lick and nose her, rousing her gently into life. The tiny thing squealed loudly and she let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. The new mother moved the pup alongside her belly for her first drink and lay her head by the boy who still remained unmoving. She closed her eyes to finally rest and that was when she heard the paw steps....

"No..."

She breathed, opening her ocean blue eyes and staring up at his cruel face. A sharp growl escaped her as she lifted a paw to cover the bundles by her belly. "No!" she barked, hoping he'd simply turn and leave her be. But of course she could not be so lucky. He didn't deserve them but she knew why he was here, he was here to take away the lives she'd just spent hours birthing. He wanted to take everything from her and she would not let him without a fight.

WARNING! TW: Language, pup death, pup abduction, etc

More weeks had passed by since the last time he had set foot within the dingy halls of the dungeon. With the surplus of recruits into the Army recently, his skills had been put to the test to train them and get them up to speed, as whispers of war floated around the barracks and danced across the citizens tongues. At this point, word of what had happened during the protests was old news; the death and sentencing coming as a shock to most. However, many - if not all - of those thrown into the cells had... escaped somehow. While Leoric still wasn't sure how exactly that happened (though he suspected bribery within the ranks of the soldiers), the man simply had no time to give to investigating that, and simply left it to the others to deal with.

Between his new recruits and the wench constantly occupying his mind, he hardly ever thought of anything else lately.

Today, one of his more trusted soldiers rushed up to him, the look on their face telling the large man exactly what was happening before he even spoke. Giving thanks by way of a low grumble of appreciation, he waited until the guard had disappeared again before he began to trek down into the depths of the dungeon below the castle.

...

Blinking a few times as he descended to adjust to the dimming light, Cain slowly made his way to the cell door, looking inside with remarkable detachment. There, he saw Nora curled on a bed of hay - a "gift" he had asked his guards to give, to at least provide her a soft bed to give birth on - and his ears angled forward at the sounds of soft weeping. He knew she wasn't stupid, she would know what would be coming once the pups were born... and somewhere, deep down buried beneath his calloused and cold heart, Leoric almost felt pity at what was about to happen.

From his position, he couldn't quite see the little ones. After a brief moment of waiting for a guard to open the cell door, Leoric bent down, angling his shoulders sideways just so he could fit, and lowered his head to sniff at the mother and pups.

Death.

A coldness not previously present iced over his dark eyes, gaze darting to where the pups lay. What pity he had felt was quickly extinguished by a festering anger brought to life again by her blatant failure. If it wasn't for the two suckling quietly at her breast, a snarl would have ripped from his chest; he would have hit her for taking from him the only thing she should have been able to provide. Yet all that arose was a dangerous, dark grumble that chattered his teeth.

He looked at his son, unmoving. Not breathing. Where there should have been life, there was none. And what made it worse is that to him, she hadn't even tried to rouse him, to instill some piece of her own soul to his body to make his heart beat. No, instead, the tiny body was cast aside as the incompetent mother cradled the daughters instead.

Without a word, Leoric bent and picked his son up gently, turning around to give the corpse to a waiting guard. Whispering to them directions on where to take him, the large man then whipped around and bore down upon the woman with an intense, paralyzing gaze.

"You had one fucking job - that's it. And you couldn't even do that right." he spat at her, anger causing his muscles to shiver and tense with waves of misery and rage. Lips peeled over his incisors; looking as if he were a demon sent for her straight from hell. "You killed my only SON!" his voice boomed like a thunderclap, ricocheting from the walls only to pummel her over and over until the soundwaves finally dissipated.

A frenzied look stole his vision, his eyes glancing from her, to the daughters, to her, then back again. With another snarl, he bent over, grabbing the Sun and Moon by their scruffs with his massive jaws and shoving Nora down with a forearm should she even try to fight against him. Her cries would be unheard as he focused instead on not injuring the puppies and removing them from their mother. He had a wetnurse already waiting back within his home, eager to protect and provide for his offspring.

And then after he dropped them off, he would go and organize a small gravesite for his son.

The man left the cell, a guard closing the door while keeping Nora back if need be.

He didn't look back.
