the garden in your ribcage
Nights in Redwood were loud. Since the heatwave and refugees piling up within the Mainland, it was hard to find any peace and quiet anywhere. Whether it was the soft hushing of mothers to their children or a group of teens tramping about. Noise seemed to be inevitable until the heat settled and those who were not from the woods would return to their own beds. Even in his own den, he tossed and turned. Violet eyes stared aimlessly at the ceiling above the soft moss that he rested on. It was then when he knew he wouldn't be able to fall asleep like this. The heat didn't fall away when the nighttime cast its sullen shadows among Rionnach. There was still a fever that ran through Redwood, overpopulated, too many wolves to breathe properly. Alexei slipped out of his den, careful to not wake any from their temporary shelters that seemed to neighbor his own home. Though he cannot imagine that all of them are sound asleep and not tossing in their beds like him. Traversing through the woods until he found a certain escape from the huffs of others; Lexi slipped into Yorkshire. What used to be tall maroon trees that tainted the forest with an ominous glow now changed over into old oaks that held leaves as big as his own face. It was sudden how quickly it changed - these trees seemed almost older than the ones within Redwood. Massive roots attempt to trip the restless man up, but he has been awake for far too long for sleep to blur his eyes. He tramped through them with some ease, keeping a steady posture as he moved through the ancient oaks.
There weren't as many temporary dens in Yorkshire. Alexei knew that the Imperial barracks were buried somewhere deep within the forest and that was probably why few had been brought here. Usually awake with the marching of soldiers. And, most likely, because they did not want any intruders snooping around their training grounds. Lexi enjoyed the silence, though. There didn't seem to be a lot of disturbances this late in the night. Maybe at the crack of dawn when soldiers continued their training, but for now, it was silent. @Lorcan |
