he old, worn walls of the castle glowed with the light of countless candles, the voices of countless wolves reverberating within the stone enclosure. There was music, and art -- culture, they called it, whatever that meant! Young Willow simply knew she had never seen anything like it again, and that such an opportunity again. She was not quite like these affluent wolves, and from behind the security of her self-crafted mask meant to resemble a great yellow sun (that probably looked a bit more like a big yellowish blob with two holes for her eyes). Which ones knew the king? Was the king even here, at his own celebration? The hint of a frown tagged at the child’s lips.

The sights were dazzling -- and maybe even a little disorienting to the young country girl, who had never even seen a castle before, let alone been inside of one! Willow felt very lucky, but despite her eagerness, she had this vague feeling, just a quiet voice inside that came to remind her that this was not her place. She was out of her element here, and though it was beautiful, grand, and romantic, the humble life she and her family kept in the Lowlands seemed… well, a little dull. It was not nearly as fancy or as fun, wolves like these ones didn’t come to her cottage.

And something told Willow that none of these wolves would really want to go there, to her vastly different world. If this was what they were used to, then Willow’s existence would seem so ordinary. She found her nerve beginning to fade as she stood near a large masterpiece detecting a humble country scene that reminded her of home.
